Industry Update: the Vibrancy Reform Series (Part 5)

Sound NSW have recently created three funding programs designed for venues either established in the NSW Live Music scene or committed to enhancing their live music offerings:

Advice and Planning: Funding of up to $20,000 to help venues access best-practice guidance from consultants and experts, including support for development applications, planning expenses, legal services, licensing consultants, energy-efficiency audits and assessment reports, and it is offered twice each financial year.

Infrastructure and Equipment: Funding of up to $150,000 to support dedicated live music venues with a range of infrastructure development works and the purchase of production equipment, aiming to improve energy efficiency and sound efficiency in order to increase their capacity to provide live music.

Advanced Screen and Lighting Technology: Funding of up to $200,000 for venues under 1000 capacity and funding of up to $500,000 for revenues over 1000 capacity, to invest in advanced screen and lighting technology helping enhance audience experience.

According to Sound NSW, a dedicated live music venue should:

•     Be based in NSW;

•     Be licensed or unlicensed;

•     Have live music as the primary function of the business;

•     Program predominantly new and original contemporary live music;

•     Market original contemporary music programming;

•     Have a room or space that is dedicated to live music that is a significant part of the venue and contains appropriate infrastructure to support regulator performances;

•     Be committed to best industry practices and have formal arrangements in place establishing payments for artist performances;

•     Have an active OneMusic Licence for Live Music performances.
