Our team were delighted to have assisted Sydney Sports Management Group with the licensing approvals associated with the redevelopment of Galuwa Recreation Centre at 180 River Road, Lane Cove (the Centre). It is a welcome addition to the local community at Lane Cove and spectacular facility. The works at the Centre involve a spend of approximately $81 million. The Centre includes a 9-hole golf course (with practice and first tee areas) and a new two-storey complex featuring an indoor sports hall, multi-purpose hall, bistro with servery and golf display area, outdoor terrace, lounge and function spaces, meeting room, ground-level pro shop, and associated amenities. The redevelopment also includes four outdoor multi-purpose courts and extensive landscaping with significant tree planting.

Our team lodged four concurrent applications with NSW Liquor & Gaming to ensure the liquor licence reflected the Centre’s expanded operations. This included a change of boundaries application extending the licensed area from the pro shop to the entire golf course; a change of business type application adding “restaurant” and “catering service” to the existing “sport facility” classification; an application to vary licence conditions to allow tailored trading hours across different areas of the Centre; and a primary service authorisation to support a contemporary hospitality offering for patrons attending events, dining or socialising at the venue.

Together, these approvals demonstrate the flexibility of the on-premises licence and support the Centre’s role as a modern recreational and community hub providing extensive sporting, food and beverage facilities for Lane Cove and surrounding areas.
